Jammaicans dominate Caribbean Junior Champs in Trinidad


The Jamaican contingent dominated the 2008 Caribbean Junior CMMB chess Championships, in Trinidad when they swept the top places in the Open Junior section. In the open under 20 Junior section,The Russel Porter coached Phillip Pryce and Zachary Ramsay Ramsay, who both attend Campion College came in 2nd and 3rd respectively while Damon Davy, the 2008 Jamaica Junior Champion came in 4th place. In the other under 20 section, the stadnings were; - Ashley Furguson - 4.5 points, Margoe Williams 4 points, Jevon McIntosh 4 points, Alethia Edwards 3.5 In the Under 14 section ------------------------- - Ramardo Polen Henry - 3rd (7 points), Douglas Johnson 7th 5.5 points, Timothy Henry 4 points, Dominic Chang 3 points, George Roy Nalty 4 points Open Blitz ------------ FM Warren Elliott 1st (Junior Category) Phillip Pryce 2nd

SNM Rowe wins 2008 Ocho Rios Independence Chess Open

 

 

Nothing (1) 2008 Independence Open set for Aug 2-3, Independence weekend

 

Jamaica's first ever Super National Master,and Jamaica's current number one player, Duane Rowe, dethroned last years champion NM Equitable Brown to win the 2008 Independence Open Tournament. NM Rowe and FM Elliott ended the tournament with 5 points from 6 games but Rowe edged Elliott for the top spot based on the tiebreak system.

In 2008, it is Dresden’s turn to host the 38th Chess Olympiad. From 12 to 25 November 2008 the stars of the international chess elite, including Jamaica, will be guests in Dresden, Germany and for two weeks millions of eyes worldwide will home in on the tournament and its grand games.

Besides chess grandmasters like Kramnik and Anand more than 1500 players will participate in the biggest team competition of chess. All chess games will take place in the International Congress Center Dresden, in a unique setting directly on the Elbe river banks of the Old Town – Church of Our Lady, Semper Opera and Castle all within range of sight.
